Please feel free to join us in the prayers prayed in worship Sunday, January 12, 2025. Our prayers this week centered on those impacted by the widlfires in Southern California, and included a prayer being shared by our siblings within Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, from Bishop Deon Johnson of the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri:
Loving God, you have created all that is,
and you have loved every bit of your creation from the very beginning.
Help us bring our full attention
to the things that matter most to you.
Let our hearts beat with your heart.
Help us see the deep need of the world,
how you are at work healing those needs,
help us meet you there.
Throughout your world,
we pray for justice and healing and peace,
and this morning,
we pray especially for those in the path or wake of wildfire
in Southern California.
"Holy and Eternal God, who in mercy companions those in harm's way, shower compassion on those who this day
contend with fire and flame, smog and smoke,
destruction and devastation.
Protect the fleeing,
guard the safe,
strengthen the serving,
comfort the grieving,
fortify the fearful.
From dust and despair, bring hope.From the ash and anguish, bring new life.From the flames and fear, bring faith;
all for the sake of your Love."
Binding up all our prayers in one prayer,
let us pray the prayer that Jesus taught, saying:
Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
